Nora Gross, PhD is a sociologist of education and former high school teacher. Her research examines educational inequality with a focus on race, gender, and emotion in secondary school contexts. She is currently working on a book manuscript based on an ethnographic study of the role of grief in the school lives of Black adolescent boys who lose friends to neighborhood gun violence, and the school practices that shape their emotional and educational recovery. She has also conducted YPAR and school climate survey work in independent schools, produced several documentary films, and is editing a methods textbook about the role of critical care in school-based qualitative research with youth.
